Wikipedia says “Super deformed or SD is a specific style of Japanese caricature where characters are drawn in an exaggerated way, typically small and chubby, with stubby limbs and oversized heads, to make them resemble small children.”
I read a lot of manga, but I also read classic comics, so my SD style is between Japanese and the Peanuts. And since I’m not the best artist in the world (I failed illustration school, but I just kept drawing), it’s probably not even close to the real SDs, but that’s how I do it – and you can see the evolution, especially in the profiles, in this very booklet.
About the title… creativebarbwire is the name I chose for my blog, since I’m creative, but I have lots of thorns, like barbed wire (besides, by now I go mostly by “Barb” instead of my full name), so I thought the author should have something that comprised everything. That’s where the Happiness Is… vignettes were first published.
Enjoy!
